BMC releases five tenders for concertising roads

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an invitation for bids for the estimated $58.06 billion project to concretise 400 km of city roadways. The Mumbai civic authority, said in a statement, that it has released five different tenders for the upgrading and enhancement of roads.

This, according to BMC, is a "major step" toward having no potholes on city roads in the following two years. The BMC stated that it was hopeful that reputable businesses that work on highway building projects will submit to the tenders.

QR codes will be printed on barricades giving information about road works, and the footpaths along these roads will be made Divyang (physically challenged)-friendly. The road upgradation tenders also include works like construction of underground ducts for utility lines, soak pits for water percolation and appointment of agency for quality control and CCTV.

Mumbai already has about 1,000 km of concrete roads and more than 236.58 km of concrete roads are being constructed in FY 22-23 at a cost of Rs 22 billion. The contractors will have to complete road works within 24 months excluding monsoon months
