Delhi: Airport express line to get 2 km extension

The 2-km Airport Express Line expansion to the Dwarka sub-city is scheduled to start operating in September. On the section of track between the current Sector 21 station and the future India International Convention Centre station in Sector 25, train trials are being conducted.

Anuj Dayal, principal executive director (corporate communications), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation that all statutory clearances for opening of the section will be obtained later this month after which the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will be invited to inspect the line in early September.

The efficiency of signalling systems is evaluated during the trial runs, according to DMRC personnel. After the test runs are over, the section will be approved for passenger traffic following the required inspections by CMRS and other regulating organisations.

According to DMRC, the Airport Express Line is expected to see more traffic as the corridor extends deeper into the sub-city. The residents of Dwarka's sectors 25 and 26 as well as those in brand-new communities along the Dwarka Expressway in neighbouring Gurgaon will be served by the new station, which will also be the largest exposition and conference centre in India.
