Anakapalli-Diwancheruvu highway to be upgraded to six-lane

The Anakapalli-Annavaram–Diwancheruvu (Rajahmundry) section of the national highway-16 is likely to be upgraded to six lanes as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been assigned the consultancy service work for preparation of a detailed project report (DPR). Spanning about 160 kilometres, the existing four-lane highway in the section was laid in the early 2000s.

There have been demands for the expansion of this particular section of the highway considering the increasing traffic. Some of the other sections on the same highway or the adjacent roads to this highway were upgraded or being upgraded to six lanes.

For example, the ongoing six-lane Anandapuram-Anakapalli national highway project is likely to be completed by yearend. This will do away with the need of the motorists/heavy vehicles entering Vizag city as this new road will bypass the heavily congested 50-kilometre Vizag city stretch of NH-16.
