Cabinet extends urban housing scheme till 2024

The Union Cabinet has approved the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the flagship urban housing scheme, until December 31, 2024. The original deadline for the scheme, which aims to provide affordable housing with incentives, launched in 2015, had been March 2022.

It had been launched with the goal of achieving housing for all by 2022. The total amount of central assistance approved since 2015 is Rs 2.03 trillion. According to reports, Rs 1.18 trillion in central assistance or subsidies have already been released up to 31 March 2022, and Rs 85,406 crore will be released by 31 December 2024. The extension of the scheme based on requests by the state and union territory until December 31, 2024, will aid in the completion of already sanctioned houses.
