UP to build 20 solar cities over the next five years

The ambitious goal of Uttar Pradesh's proposed Solar Energy Policy-2022 is to create 20 cities with 10 lakh households as "solar cities" over the course of the following five years, in addition to producing 16,000 MW of renewable power by 2026–2027.

The present solar policy, which was announced in 2017, has served its five-year term. The state administration has released a revised policy that may receive the cabinet's approval very soon.

By 2022, the 2017 policy set an aim of producing 10,000 MW of solar power, although less than 3,000 MW of that objective have actually been produced. Given this, it is thought that the new goal of producing 16,000 MW over the next five years is overly ambitious.

10,000 MW of the overall aim have been targeted for production by utilities and solar parks, 4,000 megawatts through rooftop solar, and another 2,000 MW through agricultural solar pumps, etc.
