Nearly 80% buses in Delhi to be electric by 2025: Kejriwal

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal flagged off new electric buses for the Delhi public recently. He took this opportunity to convey that he targets to incorporate more electric buses into Delhi’s public transport system. Kejriwal said that by 2025 nearly 80% of the buses in Delhi will be electric.

Arvind Kejriwal flagged off 97 electric buses from Delhi’s Rajghat bus depot, with this flag off now the total number of electric buses plying on Delhi roads have gone up to 250. Addressing the people present on the occasion he said, "Orders have already been given for 1,500 buses that will be inducted by November - December. There are 153 e-buses running presently in Delhi and with today's buses, the fleet will be now 250. Fifty more e-buses will be inducted by September. Around 1,800 e buses are likely to ply on Delhi's roads by November 2023. Eighty percent buses out of a total of 10,380 buses will be electric by 2025. There are plans to have charging facilities at 55 depots by 2023. Just like we have made Delhi a world class model in terms of education and health, the city will also be made a transport model in the world.

These buses have been supplied by Tata Motors to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Earlier Tata Motors had procured an order of 1,500 electric buses from DTC. Apart from Delhi Tata Motors has also procured orders of 921 electric buses from the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BTMC) and 1180 electric buses from West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC)
