PM set to dedicate 2 key MRPL projects to nation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate MRPL’s two landmark projects to the nation this week. These projects are a BS-VI upgradation project, executed at a cost of Rs 18.29 billion inside the MRPL premises, and a 30 million litres per day desalination plant, executed at a cost of Rs 6.77 billion, on 14.5 acres at Tannirbhavi Beach.
The BS-VI upgradation project of MRPL is crucial for meeting India’s environmental targets. The project is for producing ultra-pure BS-VI grade fuel, with sulphur content of less than 10 parts per million (PPM). As part of this project, ONGC MRPL has set up a new FCCU gasoline treatment unit, a sulphur recovery unit and a nitrogen plant. The consultant for the project was Engineers India Ltd (EIL). The entire system is in operation, producing environment-friendly BS-VI fuels.
The desalination plant has a capacity of 30 million litres per day and the capacity can be enhanced to 70 MLD. The plant converts seawater into the water required for the refinery processes. The plant runs on seawater reverse osmosis technology.
The consultant for the project is Fichtner Consulting Engineers (India) Pvt Ltd. The plant is now fully functional. Availability of desalinated water ensures the smooth running of the refinery throughout the year, said a release.
