Reconstruction of 145-year-old Bailey bridge begins
The 150-year-old Bailey Bridge over the Sukhtawa River, which had fallen earlier in April as a result of a heavy-weight trolley passing over it, is now being rebuilt by the Indian Army. This is a huge relief because traffic on the Bhopal-Nagpur Highway's NH-69 is still a huge problem. The administration had been attempting to control traffic through a temporary bridge since April, but the backwater from the Tawa Dam and the flooding from the Sukhtawa river were causing ongoing disruptions. Therefore, the administration chose to rebuild the Bailey Bridge with help from the Army.
The same method used to construct bridges in steep places is being employed by the Army. The Army applied a similar strategy along the Indo-China border.
