Quality of roads to be improved in Kerala

The state's road construction procedures will undergo a sea change in the coming days as the government decides to modernise. P A Mohamed Riyas, Minister of Public Works Department, announced this. Many of the state's roads have become impassable due to changes in weather patterns and other factors, including an unholy alliance between officials and contractors, he said.

“Roads in Kerala are designed in such a way to meet the demand of the time. The increases in the number of vehicles and weather condition have affected the roads. As a result, road development in the state can only be achieved by looking ahead to Kerala’s future,” Riyas said.

He also stated that the majority of Kerala's roads are in good condition. “But there are issues with some roads. This is due to heavy rain, lack of proper drains, and unscientific road construction,” Riyas said.

He also desired long-term rather than short-term solutions to improve road quality. “This government aims to build well-designed roads for future generations that can withstand any weather condition. The preliminary discussions in this regard have started,” Riyas said. He stated that efforts are being made to build new roads with adequate width and drainage.
