Modi to inaugurate Ujjain's Mahakal Temple corridor in Oct

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly-constructed corridor of Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on October 11. This is the first phase of the Ujjain Mahakal Corridor project which will see the temple complex expanded to nearly eight times its present size, from 2.82 hectares to 20.23 hectares by August 2023.

Work in the first phase includes a 900-metre-long corridor filled with scores of installations, including a theme park, a heritage mall, e-transport facilities and more. According to Smart City Project chief executive officer Ashish Kumar Pathak, the Rs 3.16 billion initiative includes a mid-way zone, a park, a multi-storied parking lot for cars and buses, solar lighting, a facility centre for pilgrims, a mega entry gate, Narsingh Ghat road, water pipeline and a sewer line.

"A lighting and sound system has also been developed along with the installation of 108 pillars showcasing Shiv Tandav shlokas as well as 52 murals depicting various stories. Several other statues have also been constructed," he said.
