India considers laying more petro pipelines for Nepal

India is considering building new pipelines to deliver refined petroleum products such as diesel to Nepal, as part of an effort to strengthen New Delhi's connections with Nepal and counter China's influence in the region.

Nepal has offered proposals, and conversations are in the early stages. However, the path of a new pipeline has not been determined. The news comes as the first 69 km Motihari-Amlekhganj pipeline, which can transport 2 million tonnes of petroleum products to Nepal each year, completes three years of operation. It was dedicated in September 2019 following the signing of the project agreement in 2015.
