Rajasthan: discoms press button over coal shortage

Power distribution companies (discoms) have pressed the panic button as 18 coal-fired plants are sitting on coal stocks of less than three days.
After the monsoon, increased demand for electricity in Rajasthan is becoming even more challenging with the supply of coal from Parsa East Kente Basan (PEKB) in Chhattisgarh disrupted due to local agitation. Moreover, due to this disruption, the number of rakes received by Rajasthan Vidhyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUN) has come down by 9 rakes per day. This shortfall is about 40% of the total coal received for power generation.
