L&T secures Rs 8.50 billion order for Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project

The construction works of much awaited Bengaluru Suburban Rail project will start soon. The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) (KRIDE) has issued a work order worth Rs 8.49 billion to Larsen & Toubro for the construction of corridor 2 (Mallige line) from Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara of Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project.

The scope of work includes the design and construction of an elevated viaduct of length 8.027 km including ramps and formation in embankments /cuttings including blanketing, major bridges, minor bridges, RUB, ROB, ROR, retaining wall, sacrificial retaining wall and drains, utility diversions of an at-grade section of length 17.551 km and other related infrastructural works from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara, excluding station buildings, of the corridor – 2 of Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP).

A total of three major civil contractors - Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Afcons Infrastructure and NCC - participated in the contract package and L&T was declared as the lowest bidder for the construction of an 8 km (out of 25 km) stretch of Corridor 2 of the project.
