Swiss agency moots LC3 tech for cement industry

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has proposed a new cement mix based on environmental and energy efficiency - limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) - technology for the cement industry in Andhra Pradesh. The AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) was a special invitee to a conference on limestone calcined clay cement, which is considered a breakthrough in reducing global emissions, organised by SDC and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in Chennai. According to Jonathan Demenge, head of cooperation and counsellor at the Swiss Embassy in India, LC3 has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent compared to standard cement while saving production costs by around 20 per cent due to lower energy use.
