Mota-Engil and CRRC win €1.3bn Mexican metro deal
Mota-Engil, a Portuguese contractor, and CRRC, a Chinese rolling stock manufacturer, have agreed to build three metro lines in northeast Mexico for €1.3 billion. The contract is for the construction of lines 4, 5 and 6 of the Monterrey subway system, with a total length of 36km. The lines will connect the city centre with Santa Catarina in the north and Mederos in the south.
The ultimate cost of the project will be determined by whether Line 5 is elevated or built below ground. The "Metrorrey" system now comprises three lines and 19 stations, primarily serving the city's northwest and east. The system serves over 500,000 passengers every day on average.
