New rail station and skywalk scheduled for Chennai's southern region

The proposed bus terminal on the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road in Kilambakkam will be close to the new railway station that will shortly be built in Tamil Nadu's capital city. Additionally, a skywalk connecting the planned suburban railway station and the bus terminal will be built nearby. To investigate the viability of the structures, the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has released a request for proposals.

According to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), the new railway station will be built across from the Kilambakkam bus stop, between the Vandalur and Urapakkam stations. The construction of the railway station has gained preliminary clearance from the local development authority after consultations with senior Southern Railway officials. The construction will be done by CMDA and CUMTA.
