Garuda Aerospace partners with Lockheed Martin for new drone deal

Garuda Aerospace, based in Chennai, has agreed to integrate its locally manufactured drones with Lockheed Martin Canada CDL Systems' superior Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) software solutions.

As part of the collaboration, the firms will examine opportunities to develop drone-based service applications in industries such as industrial inspection, mining, large-scale mapping, agricultural, and defence.

Uncrewed Systems are vehicles that can do data-collection missions without a human on board. These vehicles can be either airborne, terrestrial, or marine in nature. Sensors and communications software are examples of connected components. Drones are classified as airborne, hence UAS software solutions are required.

Enabling connection in semi-urban and rural areas is one of the primary applications that Garuda wants to introduce through this collaboration. The drones deployed to spray pesticides will also serve as repeaters for network signals, similar to routers hovering over enormous areas.
