Supreme Court allows Adani to operate Thiruvananthapuram airport

The Kerala High Court's 2020 judgement allowing Adani Enterprises to operate, manage, and develop Thiruvananthapuram International Airport was upheld by the Supreme Court.

The court, however, stated that the issue of ownership of the land on which the airport is built remains unresolved.

The Supreme Court was hearing a suit brought by the State of Kerala contesting Adani Enterprises' takeover of the management of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The Kerala government had also taken part in the Airport Authority of India's bid.

The State has petitioned both the High Court and the Supreme Court, questioning why a private organisation was chosen over the State for the bid. The State claimed that the tender procedure was not in the public interest and breached the Airport Authority of India Act of 1994.

The Kerala High Court dismissed an appeal against the Central Government's decision to lease the Thiruvananthapuram Airport to Adani Enterprises in October 2020.
