NHAI to construct Rs 1,137-cr NH project

The work on widening NH 169 between Mangaluru and Karkala into four lanes has begun, with the NHAI issuing a work order to the concessionaire and setting a date for completion.

Sanur-Bikarnakatte Highways will complete the project in two years for a total investment of Rs 11.37 bn, excluding land acquisition costs. The four-lane road runs from Bikarnakatte, off NH75 in Mangaluru, to Sanur, about 5 kilometres before Karkala in the Udupi district.

The 45-kilometer project highway between Gurupura and Moodbidri would be 45 metres wide in total, with 18-20 metres of carriageway, medians, pavements, and other infrastructure. The project highway also includes two bypasses: Gurupura (5.5 km) and Moodbidri (7 km). According to an official spokesperson, the four-laning is expected to significantly ease vehicular movement between Mangaluru and education hub Moodbidri, which is already experiencing bumper-to-bumper traffic during peak hours.
