Tambaram-Chengalpattu elevated corridor DPR ready, tenders soon

With the detailed project report (DPR) ready for the elevated road project between Chengalpattu and Tambaram, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is expected to float tenders in two or three months, after getting the DPR from the state government of Tamil Nadu.

The estimated project cost for constructing the six-lane elevated corridor on the Grand Southern Trunk Road is around Rs 35 billion. The project is expected to commence within a year.

The DPR is being vetted and final changes being incorporated. An official of the NHAI said, “We are likely to call for tenders in two or three months. The basic DPR, about where it should take off and land and how many arms it should have, is ready. We are awaiting the opinion of the State government in this regard.”

The Tambaram-Chengalpattu corridor will be between Perungalathur and just beyond the Paranur toll plaza. When completed, it will add a carriageway to the busy stretch of traffic between the city and the southern parts of the state. The road at present witnesses around 1.53 lakh vehicles a day.

Ramps have been planned near the new bus stand coming up at Kilambakkam, near Potheri railway station, Mahindra World City and at Guduvancherry.
