Ahmedabad’s Sakri Lake to be developed in Rs 190 mn project

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is developing the Sakri Lake in Sarkhej Gaam on the lines of the Vastrapur and Kankaria Lakes in the city. The project is estimated to cost Rs 190 million. This will be the second such lake in Sarkhej and the first to be developed by the AMC in the ward. The area has Pancha Lake which was developed two decades ago by AUDA.

Some of the encroachments on the plots surrounding the lake have been removed while others will soon be removed.

Vijay Patel, Additional City Engineer of South West Zone, said the plot area is 7,8858.49 square metres and the Sakri Lake will be developed in two phases. “Tendering has been done and work has already begun. The lake area (catchment) will be 3,4676.59 sq m,” said Patel.

“It will have two gardens, giving it a green cover of 6,262.52 square metres. The lake will have walkways and a 405-metre compound wall. Other attractions include a children’s play area, water fountain, and walkway in the garden periphery, all of which will be developed in the first phase.”

The project will have a paved area of 9,88.7 sq m.

The lake also has a Vav which has heritage value and hence will be retained during the development. The project is estimated to be ready by June 2024 and has got a grant of Rs 750,000 from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s MP fund.
