Chandigarh waterworks to get one more solar power plant

To increase the share of green energy, Chandigarh will build a 3 MWp (megawatt peak) floating solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plant at the Sector 39 waterworks here. President Droupadi Murmu laid the groundwork for a 2 MWp floating SPV power plant at the Sector-39 waterworks during her visit to the city in October. The work on the 2 MWp floating power plant at the Sector-39 waterworks was completed, according to Debendra Dalai, Chief Executive Officer of Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), and preparations were underway to commission the plants by January 15.

Dalai stated that the 2MWp floating power plant would generate 2.8 million units per year, generating Rs 13.8 million in revenue. CREST funded the entire project. While the Administration would receive 70 per cent of the total revenue, the Municipal Corporation would receive 30 per cent of the revenue. The project was completed for a total cost of Rs 117 million.
