India-assisted Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project handed over
The 720 Megawatt Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project, funded by India, has been handed over to Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC). On December 27, Bhutan's Minister of Economic Affairs Lyonpo Loknath Sharma and India's Ambassador to Bhutan, Sudhakar Dalela, witnessed the handover ceremony in Thimphu.With the project's completion, India and Bhutan have completed four mega hydroelectric power projects, according to a statement from Bhutan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering jointly inaugurated the 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project. The project's completion increased Bhutan's electrical power generation capacity by 44%, bringing it to 2,326 Mega Watts.
