PM Modi inaugurates Kolkata Metro’s Joka-Taratala route

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly developed Joka-Taratala metro stretch (Purple Line) of Kolkata Metro during his visit to the state on December 30. The inauguration of Joka-Taratala stretch of Joka-Esplanade Metro Project was done via video conferencing from Howrah railway station.

Prime Minister also inaugurated West Bengal’s first Vande Bharat Express train, connecting two main cities Howrah and New Jalpaiguri.

Recently, a trial run was held on the 6.5 km long stretch the of Joka- Esplanade Metro project. The newly built portion of the Metro Project has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2,475 crore.

The newly built stretch will facilitate fast connectivity and will also give impetus to local trade. Those residing in southern part of metropolitan city like Sarsuna, Dakghar, Muchipara and South 24 Parganas are likely to benefit immensely from the Metro project.
