Organizations pitch for the rollout of e-commerce policy

On Wednesday, the trade group CAIT and other organisations issued a five-point "Delhi Declaration" manifesto that reiterated their demands for the swift implementation of a strong e-commerce strategy and the creation of an effective regulatory body.

Praveen Khandelwal, the secretary general of CAIT, told PTI that the nation's e-commerce ecosystem has been tainted "We have urged that the government implement its e-commerce policy right away. Likewise, a Regulatory Authority should be established as quickly as feasible and a national strategy for retail trade should be announced.

We have also pushed for the three-year-old Consumer Protection Act's e-commerce regulations to be put into effect. Khandelwal noted that a comprehensive strategy is required to avoid overlap in both retail trade and e-commerce.

Associations for traders, transporters, MSMEs, hotels & restaurants, travel, hawkers, mobile, FMCG, toys, electronics, direct selling, computer media, jewellers, etc. spoke out strongly against foreign e- commerce companies at the Indian Trade Conclave organised by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

The representatives at the conclave demanded that the Centre immediately implement an e- commerce policy and National Retail Trade Policy to safeguard offline trade. They also demanded that strong action be taken against foreign e-commerce companies "who are engaging in mal- practices and violation of policy.
