First residential group captive solar project to be built by TPREL
A residential society in Mumbai named Vivarea Condominium and Tata Power Renewable Energy
(TPREL) has signed a contract for the delivery of solar energy. The 3.125 MW solar project, a first of
its type, will be built in Himayatnagar, Maharashtra, to provide the community with clean energy.
This captive solar power plant, which is anticipated to produce roughly 7.5 MU of electricity and
offset 6.15 metric tonnes of CO 2 in its first year, will be built, operated, and maintained by the
company, one of India's leading integrated renewable energy enterprises and a subsidiary of Tata
Power. The project will be completed by October 2023 and will supply Vivarea Condominium with green power at a price that is 40% less expensive than the going rate. This will make Vivarea the first residential society in the nation to employ captive solar energy for household purposes. Shivram Bikkina, Chief (Rooftop), Tata Power Renewable Energy, said: “This association is a testament to TPREL’s continuing efforts to mainstream the usage of renewable energy.” The company's portfolio includes more than 1.3 GW of rooftop and distributed generation projects around the nation, in addition to 10 GWp of ground-mounted utility-scale solar installations. TPREL also runs a factory in Bangalore with a 1,135 MW capacity for producing modules and cells.
