NTPC increases coal production by 51%

NTPC broke its previous record in this fiscal, producing 14.55 million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal until December 22, compared to 9.65 mmt in the same period the previous year.

The four operational coal mines, Pakri-Barwadih (Jharkhand), Chatti-Bariatu (Jharkhand), Dulanga (Odisha), and Talaipalli (Chhattisgarh), contributed to the highest monthly coal production of 22.83 Lakh Metric Tonnes since inception in December'22. NTPC captive mines have delivered 60.95 mmt of coal to the company's more than 22 power plants. NTPC produced 5.79 mmt coal in the third quarter of the current fiscal, the highest ever production in a quarter, and delivered 5.42 mmt to its power plants, the best ever quarter performance since inception.

Along with this coal production, NTPC achieved the highest ever monthly overburden removal of 89.16 lakh cubic metre in December'22 and overburden removal of 448.77 lakh cubic metre in this fiscal compared to 206.08 lakh cubic metre in the same period last year, representing a 118% increase in production year on year.

The mining division of NTPC has experienced sustained growth thanks to meticulous planning, resource mobilisation, and regular monitoring. Furthermore, NTPC's mining division is establishing industry benchmarks for safe and environmentally friendly mining practises one after the other.
