11 km of twin tunnel work put out to tender between Borivali and Thane

The six-lane road project, costing Rs 110 billion, is anticipated to cut the 1.5-hour travel time between Thane and Borivali in half to 15-20 minutes. This year, the construction will probably start before the monsoon.
The twin-tube road tunnel, the approach road, and other civil works between Thane and Borivali were the subject of a tender released by MMRDA. This 11.8 km tunnel route connects Tikujiniwadi in Thane to the Western Express Highway's Borivali end and features a 10.25 km double-lane tunnel, a 1.55 km junction, and two tunnels with three plus three lanes each.
The Thane-Borivali underground road with a tunnel beneath the national park was planned in 2015 by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation in consideration of the heavy traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, which causes significant inconvenience to commuters between Borivali and Thane.
Between Tikujiniwadi and Borivali, two underpasses with 3+3 lanes each were planned; construction on the project has already begun. The feasibility study and comprehensive report for the project were authorised, and after making certain revisions, a project proposal was delivered to the forest department.
