An "express" upgrade likely for Mumbai and Goa.

An "express" upgrade is likely to be made to the road connectivity between Mumbai and Goa in the near future. Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra has announced that a new access-controlled high-speed expressway will be built between Mumbai and Goa. This project will be similar to the Samruddhi Corridor to Nagpur and the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

In addition, CM Shinde stated that the expressway will be a brand-new greenfield project. A second highway connecting Mumbai and Goa is nearing completion. The central government will need to make an announcement regarding the final decision regarding the new greenfield expressway.

The Mumbai-Goa highway is being divided into four segments by the union government as part of the 1622 km of economic corridor between Mumbai and Kanyakumari. By the middle of 2023, this 470 km road project between Pollem in South Goa and Panvel in Mumbai is expected to be open to the public.

This four-lane highway is anticipated to shorten the travel time between Mumbai and Goa from the current 12 hours to seven once it is operational. However, it is also thought that the central government might think about turning the highway that is currently being built into an expressway rather than building a new one.

Maharashtra's development prospects can only rise to the next level if it is connected to the Konkan region. The Mumbai-Goa route currently receives between 27000 and 45000 passenger car units (PCUs) daily.
