Gati Shakti will assist in lowering logistical barriers: DPIIT

According to a prominent government official, the PM Gati Shakti project will significantly contribute to lowering logistical costs, boosting productivity, and assisting enterprises. All infrastructure projects for logistics and connectivity costing more than INR 5 billion are funnelled through the NPG (network planning group), established as part of the PM Gati Shakti initiative.

At the opening session of the B20 Inception Meeting, hosted by CII, Anurag Jain, Secretary in Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) stated that, “PM Gati Shakti will play a significant role in reducing the logistic obstacles, increasing logistics efficiency, and benefiting the businesses.” The PM Gati Shakti platform, according to him, has more than 1,600 data layers pertaining to topics including land, forests, mines, and current infrastructure.

For uniform planning and integration of the ideas, the NPG has representation from various connectivity infrastructure ministries/departments engaging their heads of network planning division. The goal of the PM Gati Shakti is to eliminate departmental silos and implement more comprehensive and integrated project planning and execution in order to address the problems with last-mile connectivity and multi-modal transportation.
