Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Bareilly to get metro lite from UP Metro
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation intends to launch metro services in
Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mathura in order to boost the state of Uttar Pradesh's
tourism industry. The Uttar Pradesh government intends to introduce water metro
service to Varanasi in a similar manner to Kochi. According to Sushil Kumar, MD,
UPCMRC building more roads alone won't help with the foot traffic and traffic issues
in these tourist areas. He used the metro services in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and
Lucknow as an example. He claimed that India might establish itself as a global
leader in this area.In addition, he predicted that by 2024, around 7 crore people would have visited Ayodhya. He claimed that UPMRC had produced a presentation on building metro lines in popular destinations for religious tourism. He claimed that locations like Chaudah Kosi Parikrama and Panch Kosi may be covered by the metro lite. The proposed service in Varanasi will link all the ghats and significant buildings including Banaras Hindu University.
According to him, Govardhan Parikrama Kshetra and Vrindavan will be connected by Metro services in Mathura. Moreover, it intends to build the Lucknow east-west corridor. It is also planning to run metro trains in Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Bareilly and Meerut.
