Mumbai Metro's Kalyan-Taloja project to begin soon

The long-delayed project to extend Mumbai Metro service along the Kalyan-Taloja stretch is finally moving forward. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently announced a Rs 15.21 billion fund for the project and stated that construction will begin soon.

The Orange Line is extended to Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja. This corridor will be 20.75 kilometres long with 18 stations.

The MMRDA has issued tenders for nine stations, and the process for other stations will begin soon.

According to the recommendations in the MMR Comprehensive Transportation Study, and taking into account the need for better public transportation to cater to the rapid growth of urbanisation in Kalyan-Dombivli, Taloja/Navi Mumbai due to the upcoming international airport being implemented by CIDCO, MMRDA has proposed to extend the Metro Line-5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) up to Taloja (Navi Mumbai Metro), which connects to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI

This route's stations will all be elevated, and it will connect to Mumbai Metro Line 5.

According to the DPR, services on this route will begin with three-car coaches and will eventually expand to six-car trains. This route will have 15 rakes. The MMRD anticipates 1.25 lakh passengers in the first year and more than 2.6 lakh daily commuters by 2031.
