Satara-Pandharpur Highway to be inspected due to poor road work

According to Ubale's report, the work on the Satara-Pandharpur and Satara-Pune national highways was of poor quality. Before filling the highway construction, there is a necessity to use quality gravel and gravel to strengthen the road, but the road collapsed in certain spots due to the concerned contractor's use of huge stones and black soil, resulting in the cement concrete cracking.

The Satara-Pandharpur National Highway has been under construction for almost four years. While construction on this road was nearing completion, an inspection revealed that the road was of poor quality and cracked in some places. It was found that black earth was used for infill under the concrete.

The work in question makes use of low-quality concrete. Modifications have been made to the concrete mix design. A 65 mm thick layer was required to be deposited on the bridge slab, however only a 25 mm layer was laid in this case. While the road work required providing a crossing for farmers’ pipelines at a distance of 500 m, the contractor did not provide it. In the future, the road will have to be broken for the crossing. As the embankment on both sides of each bridge work is submerged, vehicle collisions occur while travelling.
