Yogi Adityanath govt. sets timeline to make power plants

To improve the state's power supply, the Yogi Adityanath administration has created a timeline for the operationalization of at least important coal-fired thermal power plants within the next 12 months.

P Guru Prasad, the managing director of UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (UPRVUNL), confirmed the news and informed TOl that "best efforts" were being made to commence the projects on schedule. He declared: "Necessary instructions have been given to the authorities to guarantee that the projects start commercial operation within the designated schedule.

Reports stated that the state government also expected to bring the 660 Mw unit in Panki (Kanpur) online by March next year.

Notably, the Lok Sabha elections would be rapidly approaching at this time.

The inauguration of power plants will give the ruling BJP ammunition to refute claims that it is not doing enough for the power sector from the opposition. In truth, while the Obra project was launched by the Mayawati administration in 2011, work on the Jawaharpur and Ghatampur projects began in 2015 and 2016 under the previous Akhilesh Yadav administration.

The Panki project was also accelerated after the BJP won the 2017 election.
