Dharwad to get Rs 50 billion development push by PM Narendra Modi

March 12 will go down in Dharwad district history as a significant day, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone and dedicate development projects expected to be around Rs 50 billion. According to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, the Prime Minister will officially open the new campus after touring the IIT-Dharwad permanent campus that has just been built in Mummigatti off Dharwad.

Modi will also dedicate the world's longest railway platform, which was built in Hubballi railway station, at a ceremony held outside the IIT-Dharwad campus. He will formally launch the irrigation project at Tupparihalla. The work order of Rs 1.5 billion has been sanctioned for this project, which has an overall cost of Rs 3.12 billion. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Rs 12 billion Jal Jeevan Project which supplies tap water to 144 gramme panchayats, and the Rs 2.5 billion Jayadeva Center of Cardiovascular Care. He will dedicate 295 Vivek classrooms that cost Rs 420 million to build. There will be 15 works inaugurated as part of the Smart City initiative, worth Rs 3.53 billion.

In addition, PM Modi will officially launch the electrification project for the Hubballi-Hosapete rail line and lay the cornerstone for the high-tech sports centre in Hubballi, which would cost Rs 1.66 billion. Joshi stated that PM Modi will speak at a public gathering and that more than two lakh people are anticipated to attend.
