The Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has announced the installation of 24 electric vehicle fast-charging stations along the state's six major highways. As of now, the facility will be available for four-wheeler passenger electric vehicles (EVs).According to executive director (ED) Sanjeev Agarwal, the company will charge customers around Rs 22 per 30 minutes of use. EVs would be recharged in 30 minutes and have a driving range of up to 125 kilometres. Electric vehicle owners would be able to use the charging stations through a pay-per-use online service.
The company would cover 1,200 kilometres of road, with a distance of 100 kilometres between two stations. The six highways where an EV charging station would be installed are Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad, Pune-Solapur, Pune-Nashik, Pune-Kolhapur, Mumbai-Nashik and Nashik-Shirdi, a statement said.
"We are steadily moving towards converting 7,000 of our conventional retail outlets into energy stations, which is a part of a comprehensive decarbonisation strategy to support and prioritise sustainable initiatives," the firm's executive director, P S Ravi, said.
