Another bid to resurrect Noida Film City project

With a third round of international bidding anticipated soon, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP), will have another opportunity to bring Noida Film City, the grandiose 1,000-acre project, to life.

The 100,000 million projects in Greater Noida has twice been unsuccessful in luring bidders, reportedly because of the enormous investment requirement and onerous bidding conditions.

In order to compete with Mumbai's film industry, Noida Film City was designed to offer a world-class filmmaking ecosystem in one location with up-to-date air and ground transportation.

Despite the Yogi 2.0 government changing the bidding rules for the second round of tenders last year, the project's final deadline of March 31 — which was amusingly prolonged numerous times — came to nothing.

The Yogi Cabinet also adopted the revised-UP Film Policy 2023 in February, and its restrictions also apply to movies produced in the projected Noida Film City. The new programme guarantees a 50% subsidy on the price of movies produced in the Awadhi, Braj, Bundeli, or Bhojpuri regional dialects. The subsidy will be 25% for movies that are produced in Hindi, English, or other languages.
