Gurugram's GMDA creates temporary road

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is creating a temporary road of 450 meters to connect Umang Bhardwaj Chowk with Dwarka Expressway through a recently inaugurated railway overbridge. The underpass that will eventually connect the two is still under construction, and land on the western side of the structure is currently unavailable due to litigation. A 5.5-meter-wide stretch will be barricaded and used for the movement of vehicles, while the work on the underpass is ongoing, as per a spokesperson for GMDA.

The GMDA's temporary road comes as the underpass to connect Dwarka Expressway and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk is still under construction. The western side of the structure is inaccessible due to litigation, according to an official of highway contractor L&T. The four-lane-wide railway overbridge is 910 meters long and has been constructed at a cost of ?23 crore, connecting Umang Bhardwaj Chowk to Dwarka Expressway. The ROB runs over the Delhi-Rewari railway line near Basai Village and extends till the Dwarka Expressway.

In order to make the temporary road functional, a team from the GMDA and highway contractor L&T has barricaded a 5.5-meter-wide space available from the project that ends on the service road of Dwarka Expressway. "The surface of this temporary road will be made even, and barricades created on both sides to ensure safe passage of vehicles," a GMDA spokesperson said. Commuters coming from Hero Honda Chowk will have to take a right turn after getting off the ROB to reach the Dwarka Expressway, and the temporary road will not hamper construction work on the underpass.

A senior official of L&T said that the GMDA could facilitate the construction of a temporary connection to connect the ROB with the service road of Dwarka Expressway, while work on the underpass is underway, with land on the western side not available due to litigation. A senior GMDA official has said that a notification for acquiring this 30-meter stretch has been issued, and the issue blocking the acquisition will be resolved soon.
