Now, 14km-long old NH-33 set to become 4-lane super highway

The cost includes the construction of new bridges and the replacement of old electricity supply lines, as well as the payment of compensation for land and buildings acquired for the highway as the Ranchi-Patna old NH-33 passes through Ramgarh. While converting NH-33 into a four-lane highway, nearly 5km east of Ramgarh town, NHAI chose a four-lane bypass, while the old NH-33 remains a two-lane road.

A number of multi-story commercial buildings along the old stretch must be demolished to make way for road expansion. The state government has now begun converting the 14-kilometer-long road into a four-lane highway. According to a road construction department official, the 277 crore project has received technical approval and a DPR has been prepared and sent for cabinet approval. Rajiv Ranjan Munda, executive engineer of the department in Ramgarh, said the 14-kilometer stretch would be a four-lane superhighway parallel to the new NH-33 bypass.

Old bridges connecting Korea Valley in Kuju and Patel Chowk in Ramgarh will be rebuilt. Old electric poles will be replaced, and utilities along the four-lane highway will be upgraded. Ex-president of Ramgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries Vimal Budhia welcomed the move and said it would give the town a respite from the traffic issue.
