Illegal commercial buildings being pulled down in Indore

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) razed a building that was under construction on a 65,000 square foot plot of land on Wednesday as part of its ongoing campaign against unlawful construction.

IMC commissioner Harshika Singh gave the order for a removal campaign to be conducted close to Palda to destroy a building that is being built for commercial use. According to deputy commissioner Lata Agrawal, "It was a big building being constructed on about 65,000 square feet of area without the approval of map from IMC.

She said the building's owner had already been given a warning to show the necessary paperwork, including the approved map, but he had not done so and had not complied with the request to take down the illegal building on his own.

"Earthmovers and workmen were used to tear down the unlawful building. The owner would subsequently receive a notification for the building's demolition costs will be recovered," the deputy commissioner added.

The IMC commissioner has also directed the concerned officials to compile a list of abandoned buildings and notify owners to demolish them within a week. The head of department will be contacted for the same action in the event of government-owned buildings that are in poor condition.
