New parking lot opens at Chennai’s Nanganallur metro station

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has opened a new parking lot at Nanganallur Road Metro station. 60 four-wheelers and about 1,000 two-wheelers can be parked in the large lot. According to CMRL, from April 28 to May 31, parking in the newly opened space at the station will be free of charge for Metro users of travel cards only.

In the meantime, on Thursday, CMRL and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) agreed to a contract for the construction of an elevated viaduct along corridor three from Sholinganallur to Sipcot. Cost estimates for the project total Rs 11.34 billion.

This is the final tender for the elevated corridor in phase II Metro Rail construction, according to a CMRL press release.

Construction of elevated viaducts for nine elevated Metro stations at Sholinganallur Lake-I, Sri Ponniamman Temple (Sholinganallur Lake-II), Sathyabama University (Semmencheri-I), Semmencheri-II, Gandhi Nagar, Navallur, Siruseri, Siruseri Sipcot-1, Siruseri SIPCOT-2, and stabling viaduct at Sipcot are included in the contract's scope of work.

T Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL, and Chaudhary Rajneesh Kumar Singh, Senior DGM/Electrical/BD, signed the contract on behalf of RVNL.
