Kerala CM opens Perambra bypass built by Uralungal under KIIFB funding

The Perambra bypass road inauguration ceremony was presided by PA Mohamed Riyas, Minister of Public Works. The initiative will assist motorists in avoiding Perambra city. For years, the city of Perambra has been a significant bottleneck. Additionally, it will ease city traffic congestion. On February 14, 2021, the 2.73 km bypass route from Kallode to Kakkad was officially opened. Kerala Roads and Bridges Corporation oversaw the project, which was carried out by Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society.

The idea was initially approved in 2008 with an administrative approval of Rs 110 million, with a road being built 3.2 km away. However, opposition developed from those whose homes and land would have been lost as a result of the alignment. A fresh plan was created at a closer distance when the High Court ruled that the bypass should only be built after evaluating the alternatives. The project was delayed even though Rs 300 million was committed in two state budgets. Project inclusion in the KIIFB was the initiative of MLA TP Ramakrishnan. The project was additionally delayed by difficulties with land acquisition under the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008.
