New Garia-Ruby Metro launch delayed, safety approval extended
2023-05-15
The launch of the New Garia-Ruby Metro is delayed, resulting in an extension of safety approval by the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS). CRS, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is responsible for granting approval for new Metro lines in India. The safety approval for the Orange line's section expired on May 6, prompting Metro Railway to request an extension. The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Suvomoy Mitra, has extended the safety approval until July 5. Failure to introduce services by that date will require Metro Railway to seek revalidation. The Railway Board's recent decision to postpone the launch came after final train trials were conducted on May 1 and 2, with earlier plans for an inauguration on May 4.
