UP govt may open Ganga Expressway a year ahead of schedule
The Uttar Pradesh government is working to finish the 594-kilometre Ganga Expressway ahead of schedule so that it can be opened to the public before the next Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj in January 2025.The Ganga Expressway is one of the country's largest expressway projects, stretching from Meerut to Prayagraj via 12 districts. It is being built using a public-private partnership (PPP) approach at a cost of Rs 360 billion.
The state administration is planning to make the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025 a magnificent event and is making efforts to promote it as such.
According to the report, the Ganga Expressway project's developers, Adani Enterprises and IRB Infrastructure Developers, have been granted financial incentives to finish the project by the end of 2024, a year ahead of the initial December 2025 date.
The developers of the Ganga Expressway project have already accomplished 25% of the "earthwork" in just five months since building began. The earthwork refers to the first step of the project, which comprises scraping and grading the patch in order to prepare it for future construction activities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone for the project in December 2021, just before the state Assembly elections.
