Six-lane road overbridge at Ravanford, Goa

The foundation stone for a new six-lane road overbridge (ROB) at Ravanfond, Margao, in Goa, has been laid on May 16. The Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, and the PWD Minister, Nilesh Cabral, are expected to attend the ceremony.

The ROB, including approach roads, will be constructed at a cost of ₹54 crore (£5.8 million). The event will also mark the launch of the first phase of road improvement and widening from Khareband Bridge to Rawanfond Circle via Daivadnya Bhavan and Power House Circle to Victor Hospital.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, along with officials of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), recently inspected the site and reviewed the groundwork that had been completed in preparation for the project. GSIDC has already completed the tendering process for the design and construction of the ROB, and work orders have been issued. Tenders for road improvement and widening will be issued shortly, it was announced.

The ROB project is expected to be completed within two years. It will be built parallel to the existing ROB that connects Davorlim to Quepem Road.

"The condition of the bridge is not very safe. There are heavy pipes running along the bridge on both sides. The bridge was built by the Railways nearly 40-50 years ago. Therefore, the construction of the ROB has become essential," Kamat had previously said.

At a recent press conference, Kamat said that he had persuaded the Chief Minister to undertake the work of improving and widening the roads leading to Margao Railway Station.
