Avinashi Road flyover requires additional 1.65 hectares of land

Coimbatore is progressing with the construction of the Avinashi Road elevated expressway, with approximately 45% of the project already completed. However, the highways department has identified a need for an additional 1.65 hectares of land to continue the development.

A senior official from the state highways department informed TNIE that the construction of the flyover above the railway lines is pending approval from the Southern Railway. Presently, three special gears have been deployed for the installation of the decks. Out of the total 304 decks required, around 115 have been successfully installed.

To accommodate the widened road near the ramp at eight different locations, approximately 1.65 hectares of land is necessary to ensure the project's completion. The department has already submitted the land acquisition file to Chennai. Once the notification is published in the Gazette, the land acquisition process will commence.

Sources state that a budget of approximately Rs 310 crore has been allocated for land acquisition. Landowners who willingly participate in the negotiation meeting can expect to receive 25% more than the market value for their land. The negotiation meeting will be scheduled subsequent to the gazette notification.

Construction of the flyover, which spans 10.01 km in length and 17.25m in width, commenced on December 3, 2020, and is anticipated to conclude in August 2024. The four-lane flyover starts from Uppilipalayam near the police quarters and extends to Goldwins near the KMCH. It will feature ramps at eight different locations, including four entry points and four exit points near Anna Statue, Nava India, Hope College, and the Airport junction.
