Dehradun’s smart city deadline extended again by one year

The deadline for the Smart City Mission has been extended by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, causing concern among residents of Dehradun.

Many citizens in Dehradun have expressed their disappointment over the "inefficient implementation" of the Smart City projects. Dehradun was included in the Smart City scheme during the second phase of the project in 2017, with a substantial budget of over Rs 1,400 crore and a deadline set for this month.

"The extension of the deadline implies that the departments involved will likely adopt a more sluggish approach. While ideally, the work should be completed by June 2024, in reality, it may further extend beyond that, continuing to create issues for the local population," commented Yesh Veer Arya, a resident of Canal Road.

The progress of Smart City initiatives in Dehradun has been marked by delays, disjointed efforts, and inconveniences faced by the public.
