Goa PWD proposes fresh road audit and policy for crash barriers
2023-06-26
While Goa has witnessed road fatalities like never before in the recent months, nudged by the Supreme Court guidelines, the public works department (PWD) will carry out an audit of the state’s roads.
Along with the audit, a file has also been sent for the state government’s approval on a ‘crash barrier policy’, for timely repair of damaged barriers by contractors solely appointed for this purpose.
In 2019, a consultant had already carried out an audit of national highways and state highways in Goa. Now, the new audit will cover around 1,134km of major district roads and approximately 4,430km of village roads across the state.
The road audit of the district and village roads will involve carrying out ground surveys to check for signages, visibility of signages, existence and dimensions of speed breakers, road geometrics, overtaking distance, stopping distance and curvature.
