L&T Bags Rs. 2447 Crore Contract for Kolkata Metro Purple Line

Larsen & Toubro was declared the low bidder for the 5.05 km UG1 underground civil works contract between Mominpur and Esplanade on the Kolkata Metro Purple Line.

This northern and final part of the 15.215 km Line-3 (Joka to Esplanade / BBD Bagh) will be made up of twin tunnels that will connect four subterranean stations: Kidderpore, Victoria, Park Street, and Esplanade. L&T will be needed to install two new tunnel boring machines (TBMs) with one TBM on standby if and when awarded.

RVNL had requested bids for this contract in July 2022, with an estimated value of Rs. 2571.28 crore. In February, technical bids were opened, revealing three bidders.

L&T's offer of Rs. 2447 was 4.82% lower than RVNL's estimate.

The Kolkata Metro Purple Line is a 15.08-kilometer (9.37 mi) long rapid transit line in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The line is currently under construction, with the first section from Joka to Taratala having been inaugurated on 30 December 2022. The line will eventually connect Joka in the south to Esplanade in the north, via Majerhat.

The Purple Line is being built by the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRCL). The line will be elevated for most of its length, with a short underground section between Majerhat and Esplanade. The line will have six stations: Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakherbazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazar, and Taratala.
