Over 25 Madurai metro stations planned in DPR

At a multi-department meeting conducted on Wednesday at the district collectorate, CMRL MD M A Siddique stated that a total of 27 metro stations are planned for the 32 km rail track between Thirumangalam and Othakadai in the final detailed project report (DPR) for the Madurai metro.

There had previously been plans for 18 stations spread out over 30 miles.

The 32 km length will have 27 km of elevated corridor and 5 km of underground track, according to the CMRL MD.

Three of the 27 planned metro stations will be subterranean, all of which are located in the city's centre area, according to the MD. "On the elevated route, there is typically one station planned for every kilometre. A station will be built along the underground line every 1.5 km, the MD continued.
